This project produced and funded by Someguy, is very New Art and more or
less a worldwide installation piece in my eyes. He ordered and sent out 1000 blank journals over a 2 year time spand with a set of instructions, an online website, and a return address, nothing more, nothing less. He let his audience interpret and add whatever content they wanted and felt was necessary for the book, and then passed it on. Someguy quoted "Where did all of
our creativity go?". Books and a lot of content with artists was to standard and to straight forward, so he gave the audience the paintbrush, and allowed them to make the necessary strokes they felt would add to th
e piece. With the introduction to the documentary, I liked use of the hand drawn fonts and how they appear on the page. The stop animation and layer of the pages really brought out life and flow of the piece. It take something that is in the physical work, like pictures, and they layer text over it and then overlay color and other designs on top of it. All the pictures start out black and white and then color is later added and layered into the image. Someguy used blank books and sends them out with instructions and has the reader decide what he or she will add to it, and he leaves them in random places. _Bathrooms, Peoples groceries, newspaper holders.
Someguy's work has inspired another people to be artists and take responsibility for the journals.People all around the world wanted a journal and it is the journey and the story that he is looking for. He wonders where are the other journals, where have they been, what lives have they touched?
Rich Troncone: You see it and it is handed to you, Now you can leave your mark in it.
it sucks now because people tell us "how" to be creative. which defeats the whole purpose. I never understood how you can put a grade on a work of art. if someone puts a lot of thought and effort into something, and just because it doesnt look visually appealing, that doesnt make it a lower class artform.
